Vintage 1980s Resort Wear

During the 1980s around January of every year Harper's Bazaar would come out with their Resort Wear issue. For those of the jet setting crowd that wanted to escape the dreary weather by jetting off to the French Riviera. Here are a few fashions from that time along with a very unique resort wear outfit by designer Vera Cristina from the 1980's. Find this outfit and more at Seams Classic.

Day in Paris Silk Wedding Gown

Simply beautiful "Day in Paris" wedding gown. This gown is created from 100% raw (or dupioni) silk in the most perfect pearl color. Not a white white, but a much more subtle and sophisticated color which I love. Gorgeous full skirt with a train & lush petticoat underneath. Pearl beading around the fitted bodice. Lace cap style sleeves with 3 raw silk roses on each. Amazing sash in back with loops of fabric & roses. Zipper closure from below waist with tiny buttons & loophole closures. I can just imagine a beautiful romantic french countryside wedding when looking at this perfect gown. See more of this wedding dress or purchase at Seams Classic.

Vintage Esprit Style!

The fabulous style of vintage 1980s Esprit De Corp. Back in the early 1980s Esprit was incredibly popular with the younger crowd. Their ads featured bright & bold sweatshirts & T shirts with the iconic Esprit logo worn by models that always looked like they were having loads of fun. Matching accessories like purses and shoes completed the look. Jacket may be from the later 80s to early 90s when the company tried for a bit more of a sophisticated style. From Seams Classic! Fab yellow shoes from Vivi Vintage.

Vintage Nautical Style

Nautical style seems ever classic, with each era coming up with a new twist for this ever popular look. Some fun vintage fashion photos from the 1980's & 90's. Featuring a young Tracy Fitzpatrick from Seventeen magazine(1980's) and and the beautiful Daniela Pestova (1990's). Find the vintage 1940's Sailor Peacoat in my shop Seams Classic.

Mad Men Daytime Style

I think we can all agree that the that the ultra feminine looks on Mad Men are infinitely appealing. The 1950s was the only era to fully embrace the hourglass figure. The pointed shoulder pads and straight tailoring of the 1940s faded out after the war and the ultra feminine shape emerged with clothing emphasizing womanly curves. Definitely the most flattering era for women. You can note from the sizing of the vintage dresses that women had very tiny waists (at 23 to 26 inches!) during that time but the bust was roomy for those nice pointy bras.
